Houghton to Chassell Trail Notice

Houghton to Chassell Trail Notice

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be performing brushing and vegetation management along the Houghton to Chassell Trail in mid-October. The DNR will be contracting with Keweenaw Trail Services, the local trail Club responsible for maintaining snowmobile trails in Houghton and Keweenaw County, to perform the work.

The brushing will occur with a boom style mechanical brusher as well as some occasional hand cutting. A clean-up crew will follow the brushing. The goal of the project is to create a uniform 12–14-foot trail width along the entire corridor.

Property owners are encouraged to do their own trimming and maintaining of ornamental trees and plantings of special concern – prior to September 30th. Please keep the 12–14-foot width in mind and be advised to keep the Trail clear of vehicles and all other obstructions so that the work can safely occur.

Any questions regarding this notice can be directed to Ron Yesney, U.P. Trails Coordinator, (906) 228-6561.
